Helping While Harming

This sculpture brings attention to the topic of climate change and global warming. Our society tends to focus on other issues that seem important in that moment rather than focusing on impending issues that will affect everyone.
The lower portion of the sculpture is painted to resemble fire, which is an exaggerated representation of excess heat in the earth's atmosphere. The fire traveling up the hand shows the urgency of addressing climate change while we still can. The green portion on the upper half of the hand resembles a thriving field of flowers that may be soon taken over by the fire below. The snail is the culmination of all living beings on earth making swift exodus away from the fire towards an area of safety that would soon cease to exist.
